Wattage for outdoor lighting fixture

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Can I use a lower watt bulb in the Cast Aluminum Outdoor Flush Mount Ceiling Light (MX-1027)? It says 100 watt but I’d like something less, like 40 watt. Is it okay to downsize it?

Answer: We note that this outdoor lighting fixture from Maxim Lighting takes up to 100W max, so you can go below that wattage and use a 40W bulbs for instance, but you can not use a 150W.

LBL lighting rigid standoff for sloped ceiling

Friday, November 30th, 2007

I am preparing a design for my house using flexible rail low voltage lighting. The ceiling is a sloped cathedral design (about 16 degrees). Do you have any tips on using the LBL Lighting standoffs with the “self drilling hangers”? The screws appear to be plastic lag screws. Will they hold in dry wall for the long haul?

Answer: Yes. The anchor screws of the standoff can hold on to the dry walls for the long haul. For your sloped ceiling, please the pick Telescoping Rigid Standoff (HANGER-ADJ) with ball joint (+$28). For your reference, we have attached the spec sheet for the single circuit monorail system. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Will this Low Profile Contemporary Bowl Ceiling Fan Light Kit (LK63) fit on Westinghouse Contempra IV ceiling fan?

Craftmade outdoor lamp post

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

I am planning to purchase some outdoor lighting fixtures from your site. And, I have a question regading Outdoor Direct Burial Lamp Post (CM-Z8994). I need to have the post installed on the floor of my deck/porch. I was thinking of using this post and buying a pier mount to attach to the porch floor. The pier mount is only 3.5″ tall. Would that provide enough support for the post? What about wind?

There is a similar post Outdoor Pad Mount Lamp Post (CM-Z8984) that is already meant to be surface mounted but it costs almost twice as much. Is this the same post but with a fancier surface mount?

Answer: You will not be able to use this Craftmade post with a pier mount because the difference in diametes and because the weight of the post is much too heavy to be supported by a pier mount. What you would need to do is look into purchasing a pad mount (ex. Outdoor Pad Mount Lamp Post - CM-Z8984), which is a post that is supported by a base. We hope this information is of help to you. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Craftmade ceiling fan close-to-ceiling-kit

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

I ordered the Craftmade 52” Ol’ Madrid 2 Ceiling Fan (OL252) and expected two different ways to mount the fan. It only has the tripod mount which sits too low for the room. Are there instructions for the close mount or an accessory kit that needs to be purchased?

Answer: Craftmade does have a “close-to-ceiling kit” for this ceiling fan that needs to be purchased separately. We do carry it on our website. Below is a direct link to Ceiling Fan Tripod Close Kit (CK-Tripod).

Question regarding 5-light sola rail kit

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

I want to add lights and track to the 5-light Sola rail kit. Is there a limit to the number of lights and track length that the transformer will service? The kit comes with a 100 watt transformer, 5 pendant lights and 3 tracks. I want to add 3 lights and 3 tracks. I’ll need additional support units (standoffs) for the track, but supports in the catalog are listed for 150 watt transformers. Are these the same as in the kit?

Answer: Yes. There is a limit on the number of lighting fixtures the transformer can service. If you have 5 pendant lights and each light is 20W, then your transformer is at maximum capacity. You would need a separate transformer if you want to add new lights.

We don’t know where you purchased the Sola rail kit. From what we’ve been told by the manufacturer’s sales rep, rail kits purchased at places like Home Expo or Great Indoors are really inexpandable; meaning you cannot add to the kit. Hope this answers your question.

Wall sconce to be used as ceiling light, is it possible?

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

I note that several of the square Access brand fixtures can be used alternately as ceiling or wall fixtures. I need a fixture for a small modern powder room and I like the look of this Zeus Squares Contemporary Wall Sconce (AC-62095). The pendant light version of Zeus is larger and more expensive. I think the wall sconce is better for my needs. Please advise.

Answer: Yes. Zeus Squares Contemporary wall sconce (AC-62095) from Access Lighting can be used as a ceiling light as long as you have a junction box.
