Recommended ceiling fan downrod for 9 feet ceiling

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

We have 9 ft. ceilings in our house. We want to install this Emerson 54” Midway Eco Contemporary Ceiling Fan – EM-CF955 in a bedroom that also has 9 ft. ceiling. Is it best to install the fan as close to the ceiling as possible with the 2.5″ downrod? Or just use the 4.5″ downrod? What level would provide greater efficiency? We intend to use this fan mainly for moving warm air down as our heat comes in through ceiling vents.

Answer: You happened to choose the top energy rated ceiling fan, which is great. This EM-CF955 from Emerson (the manufacturer) comes with the remote control and it is reversible. Therefore, when the heat is turned on, you can turn your fan on reverse and the heat will disperse. For a 9 ft. ceiling, the recommended downrod length is 4.5″. We do believe that the final decision is really based on your preference. The heat will disperse thoroughly regardless of the drop because dispersing heat is one of the functions of the ceiling fan.

Emerson ceiling fan to be used in cathedral ceiling

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Our church is an A-Frame building 55 feet rise inside and 45 feet wide on the main floor. It is 98 feet long in the Sanctuary. I was considering three ceiling fans centrally located and at 28 ft centres, to recirculate the heat trapped above. Fans would be dropped to 20 feet from the floor. Will this Emerson 56” Industrial Contemporary Ceiling Fan – EM-HF956 work? What suggestions can you give me?

Answer: Emerson (the manufacturer) boasts some of the most popular ceiling fans because of their top notch quality and performance as well as their function. So, generally with ceiling fans, if it has the ability to circulate on reverse, then that it will be able to distribute heat. In order to drop the ceiling fan from a cathedral ceiling, you will need an adapter as well as additional downrods. Depending on the fan you choose, downrods are provided, but the length is no where near the one you need. Therefore, you will need to determine what fan you would like, then we need to verify it has a reverse function, you will need to decide if you would like remote and or wall controls for the fan, what length of downrod you need.
