Transformer for lbl lighting pendant light

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Is the 75W transformer required for theLBL Lighting Onyx Teardrop Pendant Light - HS178 flush mount or does it depend on what bulb you are going to use?

Answer: Yes. The transformer is required because the lamp for the pendant light is in the low voltage 12V.

Tech lighting monorail accessories availability

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Hi. I need 3 or maybe 4 (in case I break one on installation) more insulators to connect monorail tech lighting tracks together. I want to separate the power downfeeds from my dual feed canopy transformers to feed into their own branch of the monorail. The part number I have is 281-MOPFHI. Can you let me know price and availability? I will also be wanting a few of Tech Lighting Round Glass Shield - 700MR16G in Amber.

Answer: The correct isolating connector for the dual feed should be Tech Lighting Isolating Connectors - 700MOCINC. The 700MR16G - round glass shield (in Amber and aluminum trim) and 700MOCINC - isolating connectors are all in stock and can be shipped in about 1 week.

Meyda tiffany custom made pendant light

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I would like to special order this Meyda Tiffany Fleur-De-Lis Inverted Pendant Light - MD-65165. But only with the top shade, which is 26 inches wide. The bottom shade of this double-decker light makes it too big for my domestic use. Does this lighting fixture comes in different color?

Answer: We called Meyda Tiffany and they advised that model MD-65165 - pendant light can not be custom adjusted. However they suggested a model which we do not currently show on our website. If you follow the link below it will take you to a similar Meyda Tiffany model:

http://64.9.80.131/consumer/ps_results.asp?cat=&view=newsearch&ItemNumber=50250

The cost is $1482.00. The fixture is about the same dimensions and of similar features and maybe more ellaborate features. If for some reason the link does not work. Please visit www.Meyda.com and in the search field type in model 50250 and that will pull up all of the information on this fixture. If you have any questions, please advise.

Looking for a spotlight to used for lighting the flag

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

We have installed a 30 feet flagpole and wish to light the US flag at night for about 4 summer months of the year, and possibly year-round at some point in the future. The flag is 6′ x 10′ (so the hanging height is perhaps 12′) and the distance from the house gable the light will be mounted on to the flag is about 75′. We don’t want a bright light, but enough to see the flag is there and be appropriate for the task. We will also want to incorporate a light sensor so it runs during the dark hours only.

This is just a residence, so what do you recommend that is economical but won’t require a lot of attention (bulb changing, re-aiming, etc)? It needs to survive in a sometimes moist and salty environment, as we’re on the Maine seacoast. While it won’t ever get direct salt spray, corrosion resistance is nonetheless important. Finally, what are the relative advantages, if any, of a low-voltage vs 110v system? Given this will be on about 1000 hours a year in an area of high electricity costs, economy is a factor in our choice. Many thanks for your help! We look forward to placing an order soon.

Answer: 120V lamps are generally better for long distance. Based on your description for a light fixture to be installed on the house gable, trying to light a flag 75 feet away, we were recommend by Dabmar manufacturer to use the DF-7940 in bronze finish with 400W metal halide lamps. This item DF-7940 is not listed on our website yet, but your cost would be $260 a piece with the metal halide lamp included.

Please consult with your electrician because you will need some kind of a conduit or electrical box when you do the splicing on the 120V line voltage.

Let us know if you are interested, so we can ask Dabmar - the manufacturer to see if they custom your order to add a photocell. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Nora lighting monorail line voltage system

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I am considering nora lighting monorail line voltage system to light my large (21′ x 23′) living room. I’d like to install it in a square with 16′ of track per side suspended between 2′ - 4′ below the vaulted ceiling.

Questions:

  • With a single canopy how many lights can be installed? Should I consider 2 power canopies? I assume that I need to use a straight non-power connector on 1 side of the square (with 1 power source) or on 2 sides of the square (with 2 power sources). Correct?
  • It appears there are 2 methods of supporting the track (stems or cables). How do I determine which system to use? How far apart should the support stems/cables be spaced? (How many do I need per track?)
  • Any other considerations or suggestions?

Answer: Because Nora monorail lighting is in the 120V line voltage, you can install as many light fixtures as needed, just like straight track system. You can just use 1 power source, and join 2 segment of 8-foot monorail by using the Nora Lighting Straight Power Connector - NRS90-P81.

For right angle, you can consider using the Nora Lighting 20” Flexible Corner Connector (Live) - NRS90-P82

It is recommend that you spread the support no more than 3 feet apart. You can use either type of support; it’s actually personal preference to use stem or cable for suspending the monorail. For most of our customers (with a flat or vaulted ceiling), they tend to use the telescoping stem for support because it will have the same like at the power stem from the power canopy. For best look, you want the first support ceiling connector to be about 6″ away from the end of the monorail.

Tech lighting monorail lighting inquiry

Does the Tech Lighting FreeJack Recessed Can Adapter Canopy - 700FJRCAD power a monorail fixture. If so, what other parts would be required to do a 5′ monorail with three hanging pendants (in bronze finish). Also are pendants interchangeable as long as the power is consistent from one brand to the next?

Answer: Recessed can adapter - #700FJRCAD from Tech lighting does not fit for a monorail configuration. This item is for a free mounting pendant light, or similar fixture with a freejack adapter. For a monorail system you might want to try the following canopies:

700MOP4C02 - 4” Round Single-Feed Canopy
700MOSRT15D - 150W Surface Transformer Single-Feed Canopy

700MOSRT30D - 300W Magnetic Surface Transformer Single-Feed Canopy
700MOSRT324D - 300W 24V Magnetic Surface Transformer Single-Feed Canopy
700MOSRT60D - 600W Magnetic Surface Transformers Dual-Feed

The above mentioned canopies will all work for powering a monorail lighting application. Basically, all of the parts you need to mount pendants to a rail are as follows:

1. Power Canopy
2. End Caps
3. Monorail
4. Power Stem
5. Unpowered ceiling connectors
6. Pendant Lights
7. Freejack adapters for rail system

Monorail kits are available which provide you the hardware in a package:

700MOKTS300 - 300W Surface Transformer Single circuit Monorail Mounting Kit
700MOKTS150 - 150-Watt Single Circuit Monorail Kit
700MOKTA300 - 300-Watt REMOTE Transformer Single Circuit Monorial Kit
