Lite Source Octopi Ceiling Light output

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

I am interested in the Lite Source OCTOPI 8-Lite Ceiling Light - LS-18488-MULTI. I am not familiar with how much light a 10w halogen bulb produces. Can you help me understand how much light I can expect from this lighting fixture?

Answer: Since this Lite Source ceiling light fixture has 10 heads and each head is a 10W Halogen lamp, the total wattage is 80W. Halogen is a bit more efficient than the regular incandescent lamping. A rough estimate is around 15%. Therefore, this ceiling light has a light output that’s close to a 90-Watt incandescent lamp. It’s not going light up an entire room. You will likely need some other supplemental light source.

Lighting Fixtures in UK?

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Can I purchase a ceiling light fitting from the USA and install it in the UK? Is it easy to fit a USA light ceiling fixture in the UK or are the USA fittings/wiring etc non-matching and non-compliant with UK regulations?

Answer: In general, the ceiling lighting fixtures like pendant lights and chandeliers from the US should not have a problem working in the UK in terms of the eletrical and temperature ratings. However, lighting fixtures in the US usually have safety approvals from UL or ETL, which might not mean anything in the UK. We don’t not know in the case if there is any incident that involves the insurance companies, if they will reject a claim because the fixture is from the US and do not have UK safety approvals. Unfortunately, we currently do not ship to the UK due to logistic reasons. Hope this helps.

Ceiling Light for Sloped Ceiling?

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

I’m looking at the Lite Source Fireworks Contemporary Ceiling Light, Model# LS-1850-C-Multi, and was wondering if it pivots at the top or if it is rigid.? I have an angled ceiling that I would hang it from.

Answer:
Unfortunately, the Fireworks ceiling light has a rigid stem. You probably need to find some other ceiling light to work with your sloped ceiling. You can see more contemporary ceiling lights, or contemporary chandeliers here.
