In recent years, industrial styled light fixtures have been all the rage. Fortunately, they aren’t going away any time soon. This particular style adds a casual flair to any space they’re inserted, which makes them so attractive to homeowners everywhere. They can compliment a number of spaces both indoors and out. Here’s the low down on industrial looks for home lighting schemes.
All About Industrial Style Light Fixtures

It is important to recognize that this is certainly no “trend.” In fact, it’s worth mentioning that industrial and industrial style light fixtures have been around for decades. More than 100 years, in fact. This is because of course, these industrial light fixtures were originally intended for industrial spaces. They feature basic designs that are purely functional and today, those same basic designs are now considered more aesthetically appealing than other styles for light fixtures.

Aside from their longevity in terms of style, industrial light fixtures are also great for repurposing. If you can get your hands on an actual industrial light fixture, rather than one manufactured in the style for use for the public, you’ll find that these can add a unique flair to a variety of spaces. Plus, they can easily be repurposed for different uses. For example, a large hanging pendant light is great for replacing the ‘overdone’ chandelier.

Industrial light fixtures are also extremely functional, as their design focuses purely on function rather than on style. For example, you can easily use industrial styled wall sconces for use in bathrooms, bedrooms or kitchens. They can be used to flank doorways or mirrors, they can be used to highlight an architectural element in a room, such as a large fireplace.

Furthermore, just about any type of light fixture can come in the industrial style. There are industrial styled table lamps, desk lamps, and floor lamps as well as wall sconces, hanging pendant lights, track lights, ceiling fixtures and even chandeliers. This adds to their functionality and ease of use, as they can be incorporated into every room in the home.

Industrial styled fixtures are ideal for adding a casual elegance to just about any room. They can help make a space feel more comfortable and more lived in, which can help make it more inviting. This is great if you are looking to tone down the look or feel of a room, particularly if you’re feeling that it is too overdone or ‘stuffy.’

If you’re looking to update your space, you may find that the old look and design of industrial styled light fixtures is the key for your space. As mentioned earlier, these versatile light fixtures can compliment a number of different spaces, which makes them perfect for updating any home. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

House Beautiful (via)
This tablescape by Bunny Williams is casual, yet elegant. The silver water pitcher and small succulents in terracotta pots are lovely.

Country Living (via)
The fern frond tied to a waffle textured white napkin is a fantastic, simple addition that adds a lot of style to the place setting. The pale, silvery blue charger against the faded wood table top is a nice contrast.

Country Living (via)
This picnic of mixed china, simple glassware and simple flowers on a farmhouse table surrounded by mismatched dining chairs has a bohemian feeling. Hang a beautiful outdoor lighting fixture on top for a good vibe.

The Kitchn (via)
White outdoors feels crisp and cool. This outdoor tablescape was designed by Chelsea Fuss of {frolic!}. The palest of greens is lovely as an accent.

Another tablescape by Chelsea Fuss of {frolic!} that we saw on The Kitchn includes several things we love for summer entertaining: large mason jars for water, smaller jars for drinks either lemonade or cocktails, and a wire cover to protect foods from insects.

Centsational Girl (via)
We’re loving this table cloth made by Centsational Girl’s own Kate, from ‘Richloom Wizard’ found at Joann’s fabrics. Kate was inspired by one at Anthropologie. She even has instructions on her blog!

Shelter Pop (via)
The eclectic mix of serving pieces on this rustic table is terrific. What a selection of finger foods and beverages. A mix of garden flowers is the perfect arrangement for this casual buffet table.

Dreamy Whites (via)
This dining room from Dreamy Whites blog feels like summer in France. Crushing on the linen runner and vintage bottles as bud vases, and of course, the lilacs. Add pendant lights in this lovely space for a dreamy ambiance.

No matter what room you plan on redecorating, renovating, redesigning or remodeling in your home, lighting is one of the most important aspects of that design process. Use one or all of these five unique lighting designs in your next home improvement project for the ultimate in satisfaction and comfort in any design theme. But no matter what light fixture you install, be sure a licensed professional does the work.
Task Lights

(via)
Task lighting plays a crucial role in any lighting design. It helps to focus bright and white light sources onto specific areas where tasks can be completed. Reading, kitchen countertops, beds and desks are just a few examples of areas that benefit from task lighting solutions. Kitchen lighting is a great place to assemble a cast of task lighting characters. Flush ceiling lights are a great way to hide bright and obnoxious light bulbs.
Ambient Lighting

(via)
A good way to keep lights bright and glowing is through the use of ambient lights. A good example of an ambient light source is a florescent bulb and ballast. From flush mountable to clear covering coves, florescent lights create a soft glow that lights a whole room or area with just a single bulb. Cost effective and colorful, florescent lights are best mixed together in multiple color spectrums so as to best copy the look and feel of natural light.
Accent Lighting

(via)
Lights in any design not only help to light your work areas but also to light your design and décor areas. Accent lights help to bring out design and décor features like pictures and paintings while brightening the room. Accent lights like track lighting and other ceiling lights help to create a task light source that accents specific décor and design features that go otherwise unnoticed with other lighting fixtures.
Aesthetic Lighting

(via)
Lights that not only work well, but look good are crucial to any room redesign. Aesthetic lighting options help accentuate any design theme by adding a touch of elegance and class to the everyday mundane functioning light source. Good aesthetic lighting like wall sconces and table lamps help provide a detailed look in your design.
Natural Lighting

Light form the sun is one of the most important lighting sources in our lives. Sunlight provides plants with the energy they need to grow and our bodies with vitamins. Sunlight in design helps to accentuate décor and design themes in a unique and open way other light options fall short of doing. Natural light works best for kitchen lighting and bathroom lighting as it denotes cleanliness and sterility. Natural lighting can come from windows, doors, skylights and solar tubes.

In addition to necessary light, table lamps can add a great deal of style to a room. When you are designing a space, a lighting fixture is an essential part of the process. When you need additional light for reading, working at the computer, or for overall illumination, choosing table lamps to accent your space is a great place to start.
Whatever your style or taste, there is a table lamp that fits. Some of the common styles are torchiere, candlestick, crystal, stained glass Tiffany, mica, ceramic and porcelain. There are also numerous novelty styles that reflect hobbies, art or abstract sculpture. If you want something truly different, there are those that are carved from stone or glass. Lamps in materials such as brass, bronze and Lucite are also very appealing for any style of décor.

Candlestick lamps are perfect for sofa tables or sideboards because they take up little space and form a nice symmetry. Torchiere lamps also work great in this same vain and they give the room an overall glow as light is reflected off the ceiling. Candlestick lamps are versatile enough to be used for anything from kitchen lighting to pure aesthetics.

Crystal lamps are a popular choice among traditionalists as well as those who lean more toward contemporary interiors. There are beautiful carved crystal lamps that resemble cut vases or stemware. For the more contemporary taste, there are styles that incorporate geometrically shaped crystal with simple lines.

The appeal of Tiffany stained glass is universal. Used in many a traditional or historic décor, these paragons of artistic light bring a special quality to a room. Popular not only for their brilliant color and intricate designs, Tiffany stained glass lamps speak of style. They stand on their own as a decorative accessory in a room. Tiffany stained glass lamps make for great table decor!

Many Craftsman-style homes, as well as contemporary interiors, benefit from mica lamps. Their distinctive amber shades provide a golden light that sets the tone for a room. Balanced in a contemporary interior, they add a touch of color and warmth.

Ceramic and porcelain lamps have long been staples in every style of interior. Resembling beautiful cloisonné ginger jars and vases, these classic lamps grace many traditional interiors and provide a lovely addition when paired with an ivory or white silk lampshade. Blue and white porcelain is also a pleasing combination in any traditional room.

Many transitional and contemporary lamps are made of bronze, brass and Lucite. They take their style cues from Roman architecture, modern art and sculpture. Carved stone lamps are another style that makes quite the statement in a contemporary interior or adds interest to a transitional space.

The 2008 event held by Dolce & Gabbana in their celebration of their fashion success brought about the Metropol Kartell Lights Collection by lamp designer Ferruccio Laviani. In that astounding celebration filled with illumination from various lamp designs, one can definitely get brilliant ideas in terms of choosing the perfect desk lamps.
In essence, desk lamps are supposed to be functional. Yes, it should be stylish and fashionable as well, but function is a necessity. This is because desks are usual work areas for executives, managers, and even students. The right kind of illumination should be focused around that idea, without of course letting up on style.

That is why the Kartell Collection of Ferruccio Laviani is a perfect inspiration for desk lights. Although fashion is usually seen as something that celebrates more the form of things rather than their use and utility, the lamps of Kartell that appeared on that glorious Dolce & Gabbana event are definitely functional.
So in what way are they not just beautiful in form but also perfect for use? Going back to the Kartell lamps, the materials used are mostly plastic. This provides a very contemporary design that exploits a lot of modern technology — so expect a lighting system that is touched by technology.

Kartell Table (via)
Also, the tables that were used to feature the Kartell Lamps showcased in the Dolce & Gabbana event settled on wooden trestles. These closely mimic the appearance and interior design of modern day offices. This means that these lamps will be perfect for workplaces. The picture above is of a mini Kartell Table used as a serving tray / table.
So when buying desk lamps, don’t just focus on the accents, the carvings, the color, or the patterns. As you will learn from Dolce & Gabbana, even a style icon like them emphasized the importance of function with Kartell Lamps. So choose those that will serve your needs with style.

Bourgie as Pendant Lamp (via)
Another feature that office desk lamps should have is efficiency in energy consumption. Interestingly, the lamps designed by Ferruccio Laviani made use of highly efficient lighting system. Indeed, the collection of energy efficient desk lamps showcased that night are not only fashionable but also wise and functional.
The picture above showcases the Bourgie lamp as a pendant light. How innovative! Not only are these perfect as a desk lamp, but can also be used as ambiance lighting for other spaces. These bar owners definitely made it work with their overall theme and decor.

Kartell Products (via)
It is not an understatement to say that the designs of Ferruccio Laviani are geared towards industrial use. This merging of style and function really produced beautiful results. So when shopping for desk lamps, you should keep note of these fine features.
Interestingly enough, the Kartell Lamps is a good combination of the classical and the modern world. The modern and baroque accents provided a very contemporary look. With this, any desk will be beaming with a confident look.
