I have a Concord Hillboro fan with the RM-08-W remote. I don't have any instructions for the remote. I wired the fan and light per instructions with the fan. The top lights and fan work with the remote, but the bottom lights stay on at all times. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

We are located in California, but our customers are through out the entire US, since we are web-based. Most outdoor lighting fixtures sold today (March 2009) still have the traditional lamp types (incandescent, compact fluorescent,...etc.) However, we do get more and more people inquiring about LED light fixtures. The sales in that category is definitely growing, but it's not a major portion of our sales, yet. It will be, eventually.

Nice article. Interested to know what part of the country you are in and what trends you have there in terms of customer preference of type of lighting, ie. halogen, fluorescent, incandescent. Have LED's taken off where you are at?

In most cases, there will be room in the bar and the canopy mount to store the excess cord. We haven't had customers complain to us about having to cut the excess cord and re-splice the wire. Obviously, if you need to shorten the cable of the pendant light by a lot, it will be more difficult to push the excess cable as there is less room for the excess cables to go.

You guys have a great deal of information on the site... a great lighting resource!

With the need to "go green" on the mind of business owners across the United States and tax incentives starting to come around, I'm sure we'll see many commercial entities following suit and switch to CFL or LED lighting. Every little bit helps and it's good to see a portion of the economic stimulus plan encouraging energy efficiency projects.

If you want the reddish tint color, then you should be able to just purchase the regular MR16 bulb, which Lowe's should carry. The regular bi-pin MR16 bulbs will have light coming out from the back of the bulb, which most times would have a reddish tint to it.

One note, the accessory light shades are actually at $21.60/ea., instead of $34.95.

We have had a few customers that experienced the same thing. For a period of time, a few of Maxim Lighting outdoor light fixtures did have the peeling problem. We have had to replace the fixtures for those customers. The problem has since been corrected. Maxim Lighting did stand behind their product and send replacement fixtures at no cost to the customer. We did not hear any more problems from our customers since. I believe the problem surfaced about a year ago. Hope this helps.

I live in Lexington, KY and purchased outdoor wall fixtures made of trisyn in May 2007. By Dec. 2007 I noticed peeling on the outer edges of the fixtues. The company from which I purchased them replaced 2 of 3 fixtures in Feb. 08. On Dec. 31, 2008 I noticed the same thing happening again. The store will not replace or give me credit for these fixtures toward new ones. Maxim Lighting International has a three year warranty on these fixtures. Have others had this type of problem with this the trisyn material?

I'm not sure this answer is correct. I've had problems fitting a Tiella Sola fixture onto a Tech Lighting rail because the Tech rail is slightly thicker than the Tiella. The opening in the fitting on the Tiella head seems to be about 1/8" less wide than that on the Tech head fitting, and catches on the plastic insulator in the middle of the Tech rail.

The lampholders used in chandeliers, flush mounts are typically rated at a higher voltage than the 110V regular line voltage in the US. If memory serves me correctly, it can take 250V without problems. The ratings are imprinted on the lampholders themselves. You can always refer to them for verification. Electrical-wise, it should not be an issue.

Where you need to pay more attention to is the heat; whether there is enough heat dissipation at the higher voltage so it will not cause damage to the fixture is the key. In general, if the wattage is the same, then most likely it's going to be fine. However, it's best to consult with a licensed electrician for your application. We assume no liability in offering our knowledge here.
